East Azarbaijan ready to boost trade with Nakhichevan

The head of the Tabriz Chamber of Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Younes Ja’eleh, in his meeting with Iran’s Consul General in Nakhichevan Ahmad Hosseini said that the ground is paved for East Azarbaijan’s traders to increase economic cooperation with Nakhichevan, IRNA reported.

Ja’eleh noted that investment opportunities in Nakhichevan should be identified to increase exports from the Iranian province to the region.

“Economic cooperation between Nakhichevan and East Azarbaijan can be strengthened due to the many cultural commonalities in these two regions,” Hosseini said during the meeting.

“By exchanging economic delegations, we hope to increase economic cooperation between East Azarbaijan and the Azerbaijani side in the near future,” he added.

Last month, the Iranian President’s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Va’ezi said that Tehran and Baku will hold a meeting of the two countries’ Joint Economic Commission in January.

He pointed out that Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mostafayev visited Iran on December 22, 2020, noting that among the most important agreements made during the trip were the construction of a new power plant in Nakhichevan and a bridge in Astarachay, as well as Iranian companies’ participation in the reconstruction of liberated areas.

Va’ezi said that after the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, conditions have changed and using the new conditions needs negotiations about several issues.

He added that as a result of the talks, Iran and Azerbaijan are to cooperate in making tractors, buses, and medicine, and said Iran is supposed to build these factories in Azerbaijan.

Va’ezi referred to the preferential trade agreements made on the visit, and said it was decided that the joint economic commission of Iran and Azerbaijan be held in Tehran in three weeks’ time.

He went on to say that with the new developments, relations between Tehran and Baku will expand.
