The Iranian Army Ground Force will is going to hold a military drill along the Makran coasts southeast of the country starting on Tuesday.
Army’s Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari said on Monday that the drill involves rapid reaction units and mobile and offense brigades, according to Tasnim News Agency.
The “special and targeted war game”, codenamed Eqtedar-99, will kick off on Tuesday with the participation of airborne units, special forces and rapid reaction brigades, he added.
The troops attending the drill will be receiving logistic and combat support from the Air Force and the Army Ground Force Airborne Division in the coastal zones, he said.
“The main purpose of the maneuver is to evaluate the mobility and offense power of the rapid reaction brigades and corps and the mobile offense units of the Army Ground Force.”
He also unveiled plans to practice “rapid and decisive response” to threats and extensive strikes on the hypothetical enemy’s coasts.
The Iranian military forces have held several massive exercises over the past few weeks.
On Sunday, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) wrapped up massive military drills in the country’s southern waters.
During the drills, codenamed the Great Prophet 15, homegrown ballistic missiles destroyed mock enemy warships with pin-point accuracy, hundreds of kilometers away, in the northern Indian Ocean.
The IRGC’s missiles detected and destroyed the targets as they were sailing 1,800 kilometers away in a remote area in the ocean.
Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said on Sunday that the Great Prophet 15 drills and other major exercises, which have been held over the past two weeks and will continue for the next five days, indicate the Iranian Armed Force’s preparedness in all military spheres.
Iran is not seeking to launch any offence, he said, but emphasized that any hostile action against Iran will be met with a strong attack “with maximum power and in the shortest possible time”.
The IRGC military exercise followed Iranian Navy’s drills which were held on Wednesday and Thursday in the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf.
The drills come amid America’s stepped-up military threats against Iran in the final days of US President Donald Trump in office.
On Sunday, the United States flew B-52 bombers over the region for the fifth time in recent weeks.
The US Navy had also earlier announced the arrival of a nuclear-powered submarine in the Persian Gulf. The USS Georgia passed the Strait of Hormuz accompanied by two American warships, making it the first missile-loaded submarine of its kind to enter the region in eight years.
