Zarif reacts to US claims on Iran’s link to Al-Qaeda

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a tweet on Tuesday reacted to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s unfounded claims about Iran’s alleged link to Al-Qaeda.

“From designating Cuba to fictitious Iran “declassifications” and AQ claims, Mr. “we lie, cheat, steal” is pathetically ending his disastrous career with more warmongering lies,” Zarif said in his tweeted message.

“No one is fooled. All 9/11 terrorists came from @SecPompeo’s favorite ME destinations; NONE from Iran.”

Referring to newly declassified US intelligence, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made baseless claims earlier on Tuesday that Tehran has been cooperating with al Qaeda, Mehr News Agency wrote.

Without providing hard evidence, Pompeo claimed that al Qaeda had established a new home base in Iran and the United States had fewer options in dealing with the group now it was “burrowed inside” that country.
